Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge?

I provide a custom estimate for each project. If you’d like me to quote a project for you, please contact me. Initial consultations are no charge for the first two hours, and can be done in person or over the phone.

Can I have my source files?

I am happy to provide you with your final print or web files. However, I do not typically release working (editable) files to my clients. If your project requires printing, I can either have the piece printed for you, or provide print-ready files to you or the printer of your choice. If for some reason you need to request your working files, please contact me to arrange a purchase price.

How do I provide materials to you?

E-mail: Files smaller than 5 Mb may be emailed.

File Transfer: Files larger than 5 Mb may be provided on a CD, DVD or flash drive, or via YouSendIt.com.

Photography: For printed materials, digital photography must be print resolution. This means that the file must be at least 300 dpi at the size at which it will be printed. For example, an 8” x 10” photo would need to be 2400 x 3000 pixels. Images to be used online need to be 72 dpi at the desired display size. If you are unsure of the resolution of your photography, please contact me for assistance.

Copy: Provided copy should be in text format (for example: in the body of an e-mail, or in a Word document). If your copy is provided as a PDF, JPEG or other image format, I will have to retype it, which will add time to the project and may result in additional costs.

Can you build me a Flash website?

No. All of the sites I build are static. While Flash certainly has its place, I feel that it has become overused and often gratuitous. Search engines, like Google, can’t read the content of Flash sites, so additional and sometimes costly search engine optimization techniques might be required to help users find a Flash site. A website built entirely in Flash can also hinder accessibility. But, if you are intent on having a Flash site, I’ll be happy to refer you to one of my colleagues!
